To honour the memory of Dr Lu Gwei-djen
A visiting Fellowship tenable at the Needham Research Institute in Cambridge, England, is offered from funds granted by the Li Foundation of New York. The objective of this fellowship is to enable a scholar from mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau or Singapore to conduct research in a subject relevant to the concerns of the Institute, i.e. the history of science, technology or medicine in China. Priority will be given to scholars who are working on a subject with a focus on the history of environmental science, climate change and sustainable development of human society.
The fellowship funding takes the form of a grant of £1,500 per month to cover essential expenses such as subsistence, plus an allowance towards return international travel.
Applications are invited from scholars who hold a PhD degree and who are employed in a full-time position in an academic institution, who may visit Cambridge for 6 or 12 months from October 2026. Preference will be given to candidates under the age of 45 who have not previously spent significant periods working in Europe and USA, who have a good level of spoken English, and who will use their fellowship tenure in Cambridge to work on academic writing and publication.
While in Cambridge, the successful candidate will be expected to attend academic activities organized by the Institute or relevant departments of the University of Cambridge. The successful candidates will be required to submit a final report by the end of their fellowship tenure, they should also indicate the support from the Li Foundation Fellowship in any publications related to their visit to the Needham Research Institute.
Candidates are invited to send the following items to the address given below:
1. Curriculum Vitae with a list of major publications.
2. A research proposal of approximately 1,000 words in length. This proposal should give a clear indication of the source material which the candidates propose to use together with an indication of the methodology to be followed. Candidates should also explain why a visit to the UK in general and the NRI in particular would be valuable for their research.
3. A copy of a certificate of the level of achievement in spoken and written English.
4. Letters of support from two academic referees.
5. Signed NRI_Data_Protection_Statement without which we will be unable to process the application.

1993年,为纪念鲁桂珍博士,经何丙郁先生多方努力,设于美国纽约的李氏基金会(The Li Foundation of New York)决定在李约瑟研究所设立一项奖学金,用于资助中国和亚洲华语地区的一名青年学者赴英国剑桥从事中国科学、技术和医学史研究。这是李约瑟研究所建所以来设立的第一个学术奖学金。自1994年以来,这一奖学金一直持续不断地资助青年学者来剑桥访学,为推动中国科技史研究事业发展做出了独特的巨大贡献。

宗旨
李氏基金奖学金旨在支持中国和亚洲华语地区的青年学者前往李约瑟研究所从事中国科学、技术和医学史研究。从事与环境史、气候变迁、 生态保持和人类可持续发展相关研究的申请者将给予优先考虑。
奖学金用途和标 准
此项奖学金以补助金的形式发放,用于支付国际旅行开支和资助期间的生活费用,资助标准为1500英镑/月(视汇率变化而定)。
申请人资格
申请人应为已取得博士学位并在高校或科研机构任职的青年学者,并可从2025年10月起赴英访学6个月或12个月。年龄45周岁以下、 以前无长期海外学习和工作经历、具有良好英语口语能力、并拟利用在英访学的机会致力于学术写作和发表的申请者将给予优先 考虑。
相关要求
获选李氏基金奖学金的学者应积极参与李约瑟研究所和剑桥大学相关院系组织的学术交流活动。访学结束时,应向研究所提交详细的研究工作报告,并在发表的学术成果上标明“获得美国纽约李氏基金会奖学金资助”的信息。
申请材料
申请者需提 交如下申请材料:
l 简历(包含 论著列表);
l 研究计划, 约1000字左右。申请者需具体阐述拟用原始研究材料的来源及其研究方法;并说明赴英访学的机会对其研究工作的意义;
l 证明英语水平的相关材料;
l 学术推荐信 (两封)。
l 填写个人NRI_Data_Protection_Statement(Data Protection Statement)(请在李约瑟 研究所的网站上下载相关的表格,填写并签名)。
